The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) is excited to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the American Veterinary Medical Association by joining the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, Zoetis, and the American Veterinary Medical Association in supporting “Animal Connections: Our Journey Together”. This traveling exhibit will give visitors of all ages a truly unforgettable experience by introducing them to the complex and unique bond between humans and animals.

Courtesy of AVMFFor over 50 years, The AVMF has served as the charitable arm of the American Veterinary Medical Association through embracing and advancing the well-being and medical care of animals. The AVMF is dedicated to designing programs that benefit veterinary medicine, promote animal well-being, educate the public, and enhance research, so that veterinarians and animal lovers are prepared to deal with difficult problems facing animal health today and in the future.

Since its formation 1963, The AVMF has awarded more than $50 Million in grants. As a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, AVMF relies on the generosity of animal lovers and veterinary communities for support to help our veterinarians help animals with AVMF programs including:

Veterinary Student Support — The AVMF is committed to helping offset the cost of veterinarian medical education. Ultimately, we look to identify outstanding veterinary students capable of changing the world by addressing the health and research needs of society – both today and tomorrow.eterinary Student Support — The AVMF is committed to helping offset the cost of veterinarian medical education.

Saving the Whole Family — Animal disaster preparedness and response is our primary focus. In the event of a disaster, we want you and your pet to get out safely. The AVMF provides funds for programs that train for disasters and support humane outreach and animal welfare efforts.Ultimately, we look to identify outstanding veterinary students capable of changing the world by addressing the health and research needs of society – both today and tomorrow.

  • Our Oath in Action — Members of the veterinary profession take an oath dedicating themselves to providing high quality veterinary care and services to animals.  Our Oath in Action is a community hands-on program that will address animal needs in specific areas of the country.
  • From Farm to the Family Table — Veterinarians play a key role in providing a safe, wholesome and abundant food supply for the health and well-being of humans. From Farm to Family Table educates the public on the important role that veterinarians play in all aspects of food safety, from development to consumption.
  • Animal Health Studies — The AVMF is committed to providing funding for the exploration of diseases that affect both animal and human health.
  • America’s Favorite Veterinarian — The AVMF recognizes outstanding veterinarians through this fun and exciting contest.  This program allows the AVMF to engage the public and promote the important role that veterinarians play in society.
